The past decade can best be described by this quote from Charles Dickens: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way."
The past decade will be remembered by future generations for 9/11 and the collapse of the world's financial system. It will be remembered as a time of greediness; it will be remembered as a time of great despair. It will be remembered as a time of great financial gains; it will be remembered as a time of devastating financial losses.
It will be remembered as a time when the Internet changed the world; it will be remembered as a time when terrorism changed the world. It will be remembered for the creation of YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and MySpace; it will be remembered for the creation of hate and discontent. It will be remembered as an time of foolishness; it will be remembered as a time of hope. It will be remembered as a time of meaningless war; it will be remembered as a time of necessary war.
The past decade was a time of great tragedy for America and much of the world. It was also a time of person tragedy for many including me. It was also a time of great accomplishments for America and the world. It was also a time of personal accomplishments many including me.
For better or for worse, the 0 to 10 decade is behind us now. May the next decade be better than we could ever imagine.
Happy New Year and happy new decade to all.
