The Thanksgiving Eve Massacre in Mumbai, India on November 26, 2008 proved one thing. It proved that terrorists in “Third World Countries” hate Americans, they hate our way of life, and they want us dead. If you don't see that, you really need to wake up. As the world watched those well trained terrorists walk through buildings in Mumbai searching specifically for American and British travelers, their intent was obvious and their goals were clear. The attack was an attack on the American and British ways of life.

American and British companies that outsourced jobs to India over the last thirty years deserve much of the blame for the massacre in Mumbai on Thanksgiving Eve. American and British companies have for years exploited cheap labor in India and many other countries. Much of the population of these countries resent America's influence on their daily lives. What happened in Mumbai may only be the start of a new and much more dangerous era of terrorism targeting American citizens.

Lets face it, earning a huge executive bonus really doesn't mean that much if you are killed by terrorists on a business trip to your outsourced operation in India. The cost of doing business in India or any other “Third World Country” just increased considerable. The profits earned by using cheap slave labor just declined dramatically. With higher taxes and terrorism looming over the heads of companies outsourcing jobs to India and other countries, it would be insane to continue the practices of the past.

American companies looking to bring technology jobs back to America my face unforeseen challenges however. Due to the outsourcing practices of American companies, the number of college students majoring in Computer Science and Engineering have declined as much as 70% at some universities over the last ten years. College students want to stay as far as possible away from the industry that exported so many jobs in the past. Many of these students watched as their parents lost high paying jobs in the technology industry to outsourcing and guest workers willing to work for reduced wages. Coupled with that fact are the new regulations that will make it much more difficult for American companies to hire guest workers to take American jobs in the future.

So what is the answer for American technology companies? Well there may not be an answer. Lets face it, American technology companies have trained their foreign competition for the last thirty years. Yes, you read that correctly. American technology companies have trained foreign companies in the best practices of software engineering, software development, and electrical engineering for the last thirty years. Those same companies may very well become fierce competitors and innovators in the near future.

Although many of the original technology companies that spearheaded the outsourcing movement may collapse in the near future, all may not be lost however. The very collapse of established technology companies may very well inspire and make way for a new and more efficient breed of both young and old innovators interested in producing great products and not so interested on high profits. Small and very efficient technology companies using cost cutting tactics such as telecommuting, agile software development methodologies and utilizing the open-source world may very well rule the technology industry in five years.

After all, innovation is what Americans do best. We put a man on the moon. We built the Space Shuttle Program. And we built the Internet. It's a very good bet that Americans will dominate the technology industry of the future. The only thing likely to change is the players in the game .

If you work in the technology industry, I would love to here you opinion.
